Biography

Emma Hayden was born in Appin, NSW in 1835 to William Hayden and Mary.[1] Her siblings were:

  • Hannah, born 1837
  • John, born 1840
  • Mary Ann, born 1842
  • Henry, born 1843
  • Robert, born 1846

Emma married William Mingus French in Albury, NSW in 1853.[2] Their children included:

  • Isabella, born 1854
  • Emma, born 1855
  • William, born 1857
  • Robert, born 1859

  • Mary Ann, born 1863

In 1868 Emma was called on in the night to assist a sick neighbour. Instead of riding the horse brought for her use she decided to walk. She was carrying her youngest child in her arms when she tripped and fell down a steep bank into a heap of dead wood. The child was not hurt, but Emma was seriously injured. She passed away in Tumut, NSW in 1868.[3] [4][5]
