Emma Hayden was born in Appin, NSW in 1835 to William Hayden and Mary.[1] Her siblings were:

Emma married William Mingus French in Albury, NSW in 1853.[2] Their children included:

In 1868 Emma was called on in the night to assist a sick neighbour. Instead of riding the horse brought for her use she decided to walk. She was carrying her youngest child in her arms when she tripped and fell down a steep bank into a heap of dead wood. The child was not hurt, but Emma was seriously injured. She passed away in Tumut, NSW in 1868.[3][4][5]
