Kathryn V. (Hayes) Sears, 95, of Dennis, died on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Atty. Samuel P. Sears, eminent Boston attorney, past president of the Massachusetts Bar Association and past president of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He died in 1964. Born in Bryan, Ohio, Mrs. Sears attended Antioch College in Ohio and Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. She moved to Dennis in 1973. Mrs. Sears is survived by two daughters, Heidi Schadt of South Dennis and Wendy Grassi of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son, Samuel P. Sears Jr. of Winchester; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Tighe of Norwood, Daniel A. Schadt Jr. of Brewster, Rebecca Doncaster of Harwich, Elisabeth Civetti of West Yarmouth, Carrie Grassi of Brooklyn, N.Y., Heather Gaitan of Barcelona, Spain, Samuel P. Sears III of Wakefield, Spencer Sears of Golden, Colo., Zachary and Hunter Sears, both of Denver, Colo., Hope Burleigh of Calabasas, Calif., and Alison Vareika of Newport, R.I.; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two stepchildren, Roland Sears and Ann Whiteman. Funeral services will be private.
