Biography

Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Hayes was born on February 7, 1884 in Lewis County, Tennessee to Wallace Abner Hayes and Sarah Frances "Fannie" Sims.

Mollie married Eldon E. Johnson on April 12, 1903 in Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas. Mollie and Eldon had three daughters. Ometa J, Ruby May and Alma Estelle. Mollie's husband Eldon passed away on June 15, 1909, just eight months after their daughter Alma Estelle was born. Mollie can be found in the 1910 US Census of Ellis County, Texas, widowed with three children and living with her parents. Mollie never remarried and raised her three daughters with the help of her parents.

Mollie was also known as "Big Mama" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mollie passed away on June 24, 1977 in Oak Cliff, Dallas County, Texas. Her final resting place is at the Midlothian Cemetery in Midlothian, Ellis County, Texas near her parents and other family members.
