OBIT: Sanford Hayes, 95, well known throughout the Kittitas Valley as "Grandpa" Hayes, died last night of old age at the home of Lou Bender, a relative by marriage. He had been a resident of the valley for the past 41 years. He leaves five sons and two daughters, including William, Sam, and Milo of Idaho, James T. Hayes of Ellensburg and Sanford Hayes Jr. of Oregon; Mrs. Julia Ann Fortney of this city and Mrs. Olivia Shelton of Idaho. William Hayes is expected here from Idaho tonight. Funeral arrangements have not as yet been made. The body is at the Steltz Mortuary. - Ellensburg Daily Record, February 9, 1922
