Hiram Eakle Hayes was born on February 6, 1846 in Washington County, Maryland, United States, son of Henry Hays (1808–1888) and Sarah Eakle (1810–1872).

Hiram (27) married Martha Ellen Knodle (25) (born on March 12, 1847 in Ogle, Illinois, United States; daughter of William Knodle and Rachel Minkiny Coffman) on March 2, 1873 in Ogle, Illinois.[1] Their children were:

In 1920, Hiram Eakle (age 73) was living in Liberty Township, Keokuk County, Iowa. [2]

Hiram died on January 30, 1933, aged 86.[3]
