Mary Elizabeth Hayes, daughter of James D. Hayes and the former Miss Elizabeth Hollis, was born on the 12th of August 1827 in Chester, South Carolina. Her parents were both from Ireland and had come to South Carolina in search of religious freedom. There they joined the Reform Presbyterians and later emigrated to Lincoln County, Tennessee and became members of Prosperity & Blanche A.R.P. churches.
Mary Elizabeth Hayes was married to John Good on February 5th 1852, by Rev. Archibald S. Sloan, Minister of Prosperity A.R.P. Church.
