Josiah was born 8 August 1808 to Josiah Haynesand Rainer Kempton in Colrain, Franklin County, Massachusetts, USA.
Josiah, the son of Josiah and Rainer (Kimpton) Haynes, married; 1) Melona Osborn on 3 April 1834. Their children include;

- Melona Elizabeth Haynes (1843 - 1844)*
2) Lovina Bennett on 4 April 1844. They had one child, Jane A Haynes Saunders (1848 - 1908)
