George was baptised on 22 February 1835 in Tollard Royal, Wiltshire. He was the son of David Hayter and Sophia Bennett.[1]

George married Jane Wheeler in about June 1860 in Wimborne Register. The couple had 9 children: William Arthur Hayter, Miriam Ellen Hayter, George James Hayter, Annie Ferret Hayter, Charles Austin Hayter, Lydia Mary Hayter, John Farley Hayter, Sophia Jane Hayter and Horace Fred Hayter.[3]
On 7 April 1861 George was employed as an Agricultural Labourer.
