Parents and Siblings

Katherine, the second wife of Sir Rowland Hayward, was daughter of Thomas Smith, esquire, by whom he likewise had three sons and five daughters; whereof one sonne and one daughter died infants. The two sons and four daughters yet living are:

  1. George
  2. John
  3. Alice
  4. Katherine
  5. Mary
  6. Anne, all young and unmarried at their father’s death.[1]

Mary was a beneficiary of the will of her grandmother, Alice (Judde) Smythe, the will made on 10 Jul 1592[2].

Mary was noted in the will of her uncle Sir Thomas Smythe (will made 1621/1662 and proved in 1625) as his goddaughter, the Lady St Leger[3].
