Biography

Alice Hayward was born in 1902 in Easton, Massachusetts. She was daughter of William Hayward and Elizabeth (Truman) Hayward. ^[1]

In 1920 she was 17 years old and lived in Easton. ^[2]

Alice attended Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated with a degree in General Science. She was an athletic woman, she played on the Simmons women's basketball team and participated in track meets. She placed first in the standing broad jump and second in the running broad jump. ^[3]

Her senior picture notes she was called "Al". This is her yearbook entry.

"Age cannot wither, not custom stale, her infinite variety."

"Words fail us when we attempt to describe Al. During the four years we have known her she has not changed a bit, in fact she has absolutely refused to grow up. When we need cheering up after flunk cards appear or someone has broken the precious crucible with the salt which we cooked ten hours and haven't weighed, a good dose of Al is the best medicine. Higher praise than this deserveth no man - nor woman neither." ^[4]

She worked only briefly in a Tuberculosis Hospital before marrying and starting a family.

In 1927 Alice married Philip Spencer Glasson in Easton, Massachusetts. ^[5] They moved to Berlin, Coos County, New Hampshire and Philip worked for the Brown Company (paper mill) as a Chemical Librarian.

The 1940 Census records that she is married and lives in Berlin, New Hampshire. ^[6]

Alice died in Oct 1976 in Berlin and is buried in Marlborough, New Hampshire at Pine Grove Cemetery. ^[7]
