William Hayward 2 (William 1) was born about 1647 at Braintree, Massachusetts. He was the son of William Hayward and Margery Knight. William passed away 17 Dec 1717 at Swansea, Bristol County, Massachusetts.[1]
William's father drowned in 1659 and he seems to have gone to live with relatives at Bridgewater and Duxbury, Massachusetts. He first appears in public records at Swansea, near Duxbury, in 1672, the year he married Sarah Butterworth. Their children are all recorded at Swansea.[2]
William married second, Priscilla Tomkins 6 May 1708, at Mendon, Massachusetts.[1] William and his brothers apparently had land at Mendon.[2]
William was among the first signers admitted to the town of Swansea, Mass. 22 Feb 1669 where he lived until 1700 when he moved to present day Bellingham. The will of William Hayward of Mendon, yeoman, is dated 10 Nov 1712 and proved 6 Jan 1717/18.[3] The will states that he had five sons and five daughters, some of whom were deceased. The only children named were his sons Jonathan, Oliver, Benjamin, and Samuel. One item in the inventory was land at Swansea, corroborating that William of Swansea was the same who passed away at Mendon
