James was born to Joseph Hayward and Abigail Hartwell,April 2,1764,Concord,Middlesex,Massachusetts.He had a twin brother named John.[1]

He married Elizabeth Brown,April 30,1785,Concord,Middlesex,Massachusetts.[2]

the couple had 5 children:

  • Stephen Hayward-Oct.30,1787
  • Sarah Hayward-Dec.10,1789
  • Joseph Hayward-Nov.24,1793
  • Tilly Brown Hayward-April 2,1797

Captain James Hayward passed away Jan. 26,1839,Plainfield Hampshire,Massachusetts.The title Captain indicating he was in the service.(will look into that further.[3]
