Research Notes

Note: It seems probable that James Hazen remained in Washington Co., Pa., longer then his father, for a deed dated 5 July 1795 shows that "James Hazen of Peters township" bought 15 acres there of William Newell. In the census of 1800, a James Hazen is given both in Peters township and in Mercer County, from which it may be inferred that he moved about that time. His land in Sandy township, Mercer Co., bordered on that of his brother-in-law Thomas Philips. After the death of his first wife, he moved to Beaver County, settling in Franklin township, near North Sewickley, where he probably spent the rest of his life, though he owned land in Sandy Creek as late as 1834. He served in the War of 1812.
On 11 Dec 1811, Andrew Nye and wife Rachel of Beaver County conveyed for $700 to James Hazen and John Hazen of the same place 97 acres, out of 393 acres in the township of North Sewickley, conveyed by Patent [Patent Book, 50:165] 12 Jan 1805 to Isaac Hazen, a part of which Isaac conveyed to Nye on 1 Oct. 1807. [Beaver Co. Deeds, C:209].
The will of James Hazen of Franklin township, farmer, dated 10 May 1851 and proved 17 May 1851, left to his wife Jerusha all his property. At her death each of his daughters, Mary, Eleanor, Johanna, Anna, and Maria were left $100 each; his sons, Joseph, James, Isaac, Jeremiah, Amariah, Loring, and Absolom were to share the balance equally. [Beaver Co. Wills, C:242.]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
