Benjamin was born in 1816, son of Abraham and Rachel (Schoonover) Hazen. He married first Sarah Osborne, with whom he had nine children: Frederick, Paul, Sarah, Susan, Sophia, James, Joseph, William, and George. Sarah died in childbirth.
Benjamin died in 1893.
