Biography

Laura was born in 1877. She was the daughter of John Head and Caroline Barker. She passed away in 1967.

Following from researcher Russell Dawe: Laura (Lol) Head, born at Terang, spent her early life there, later becoming a school teacher. She taught st Geelong and then commenced teaching at Rathscar Park School, arriving at the school on 8 March 1901, She boarded with Mrs Jim Young ("Woodlands" Rathscar). She taught for 4 years, firstly in a slab school near Frank Hutchison's, and then Rathscar School. ("Rathscar Central School, Swanston St., Geelong. "?)

On March 15 1905 Lol Head married Ralph Rowlands, a farmer of ....? (Wareek(?). They married at Terang, at the home of the bride's parents, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Samuel Fraser. The bride's neice, Ruby Wilson (nee Simpson) being their Flower girl.

Their home was at "Elm Pines", Wareek via Maryborough.

Diamond Wedding Celebrated.

The Diamond wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs R.S.Rowland was celbrated at their home "Elm Pines", Wareek, last Sunday.

Mr and Mrs Rowland were married in the home of the bride's parents, the late Mr. and Mrs John Head, Baynes Street, Terang, on March 15, 1905 by the late Rev. Samuel Fraser.

Mrs Rowland was formerly Miss Laura Head.

Thirty-six relatives and friends were present at the celebrations, and came from Melbourne, Maryborough, Ouyen and Terang. Among these was Mrs Lyn Wilson, of Maryborough, who as Miss Ruby Simpson, was the couple's flower girl.

A nephew, Mr Fred Williams, of Melbourne, extended good wishes on behalf of the gathering, and also read telegrams of congratulations from the Quewen, the Governor General (Lord L'Lisle) and the Prime Minister (Sir Robert Menzies).

Highlight of the lavish afternoon tea, prepared by Mr. and Mrs Rowland's daughters, was a beautifully decorated two-tier wedding cake presented by their daughter, Mrs C. Horne, or Ouyen.
