Biography

Jesse Headen, son of William Headen and Jane Beavers

BIRTH AND DEATH:
Birth Date: about 1770, based on a rough estimate
... assume born before 1775, bases on male ages on father's 1790 census
... born sometime before 1786 because NOT a minor in father's 1807 Will
... born sometime before 1788, assuming age 21+ when taxed in 1809
Birth Place: probably South Carolina, but maybe Virginia.
... his parents moved from VA to GA sometime between 1765 & 1771
... parents lived in Loudoun Co., VA thru at least 1765.
... parents moved to 96th District, SC sometime before 1771
... Note: Spartanburg District was created in 1795 from Ninety-Six District
Death Date: unknown; sometime after 1809 taxes
Last Known Location: Jackson County, Georgia
EVIDENCE OF PARENTS:
Jesse is included in the 1807 Will of his father William Headen
... The will includes William's wife Jane, his sons and son-in-laws.
Jesse has 1809 taxes on same page as his father's Estate taxes
MARRIAGE:
unknown if Jesse ever married
Jesse might be mentioned in his brother George's 1819 Will.
This probably a different Jesse because it implies Jesse is a minor.
Jesse's inheritance is being held by "John M. Brazeal for the use of Jesse Headen".
The will specifically says John M. Brazeal is a nephew, but not specify Jesse's relationship.
Note: George's will includes a mixture of brothers, brother-in-laws, and nephews.
Nephew Jesse:
The "nephew theory" is most likely, because 13 years later, an orphan Jesse J. Hayden participated in the 1832 land lottery.
The classification of orphan, as it applies to the Land Lottery, is defined as: father was killed in Revolutionary War, War of 1812, or Indian War
So the question is: orphan of who? and which war?
