John Heald was born in Concord, Massachusetts, on February 14, 1720, the son of John and Mary Heald. [1]

Lieutenant John served in Capt. John Hayward’s Co. of Minutemen, Col. Abijah Pierce’s Regt., which marched on the alarm on April 19, 1775; He was commissioned June 5, 1775. He's listed with the men returning from serving on picket guard under Maj. Baldwin, dated May 23, 1775; reported detailing under Capt. Jonas Hubbard: also Lieutenant, Capt. William Smith Co.; and is on the list of officers of Col. John Nixon’s Regt., resolved in the Committee of Safety in Cambridge, June 5, 1775, that said officers be approved and recommended to Congress for commissions. Engaged April 24, 1775, service 3 mos., 15 days; also, 2nd Lieutenant, Capt. Israel Heald’s Co., Col. Eleazer Brooks’s Regt. 1

He was Lieutenant in a company of 63 men from Concord and Acton commanded by John Buttrick. [4] They arrived in Saratoga and then went to Fort Edwards. They returned to Saratoga and according to Deacon White’s Journal they “had the pleasure to see the whole of Burgoyne’s Army parade their arms and march out of their lines; a wonderful sight indeed; it was the Lord’s doing, and it was marvelous in our eyes.“ [5] “He was an industrious farmer and when past middle life abandoned his plow to espouse the cause of American freedom. He had an eventful military life. He was one of the first Selectman of Carlisle.” [6]

On July 18, 1745, John married Elizabeth Barrett, (14 Feb 1726/27 Chelmsford - 31 Oct., 1823 Pepperell). [7]

They had 7 children who were all born in Acton.[8]

John Heald died in Carlisle October 26, 1810.[8]

No headstone has been found for Lt. John, but reference to this cemetery appears in the Fifty-eigth Report of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution April 1, 1954-April 1, 1955. page 176

Heald-1170 and Heald-404 appear to represent the same person because: clear duplicate. wikitree search needs to be better.
