Biography

Charlie Wilson Heape was born on 25 December 1905 to James Benjamin Heape and Mary Victoria Bowers. He married Luell Marie Cook on 12 September 1926, and they had 6 known children together. Charlie died on 10 September 1988.[1] He is buried at Peeples Cemetery in Varnville, South Carolina.[2]

United States Census History

1920: C Wilson Heape is enumerated in his parents' household in Peeples, South Carolina. He is 14 years old and lives with his parents and 5 other siblings. The family owns the home. He attended school and is able to read and write. He works on the farm at home.[3]
1930: Charles Heape is 24 years old and is enumerated as Head of Household on Hugging Oash Road in Peeples, South Carolina. He first married at age 21 and lives with his wife and son; the family owns the home, which is on a farm. The family does not own a radio. Charlie works as a farmer on his own account. He is able to read and write.[4]
1940: Charlie Heape is 34 years old and is enumerated as Head of Household in Peeples Township, South Carolina. He lives with his wife and 3 children and works as a farmer. The highest grade of school he completed was 4th grade.[5][6]

Obituary

Charlie Wilson Heape, 82, died Saturday.
Born in Hampton County he was a son of the late James Benjamin and Mary Bowers Heape. He was a retired carpenter for Westinghouse Corp. and a member of Deep Branch Baptist Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Luell Marie Cook Heape; sons Jack Heape of Early Branch and Ben and Charlie O Heape both of Varnville; a daughter, Mrs. Margie Woods of Gillisonville; and a sister, Mrs. Daisy H. Peeples of Laurens.
Services will be held at 5 p.m. today at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial In Peeples Cemetery.[8]
