Father: John Gerrard Heaphy, who was a merchant with Irish ancestry. Mother: possibly French.[1]
He married first, Mary Stevenson in 1799 with whom he had two sons and three daughters. It's possible he had another daughter (Ellen, b. 9 Oct 1807) and another son (John, b. 30 Aug 1810, bur. 9 Nov 1829). [2] He married second, Harriet Jane Mason with whom he had 2 sons.
Thomas Heaphy was an English water-colour and portrait artist. He was appointed portrait-painter to the Princess of Wales, Princess Charlotte, and to Prince Leopold, among other distinguished people.
He was a property developer at Regent's Park and St. John's Wood.
He established the Society of British Artists and was first president of the society.
He published a book called The Likeness of Christ; an Enquiry into the Verisimilitude of the Received Likeness of Our Blessed Lord.
In 1812 Thomas Heaphy went to Spain and painted the portraits of army officers who sat for him in the British camp during the Peninsular War.
Thomas Heaphy aged 59 of Milton Street, MaryleBone, was buried on the 30th October 1835 in Bunhill Fields, London, England.
