Biography

Mary Heard ( aka Heald & Hurd ) born about 1746. Information still being developed. What is known from vital records is: Mary Heard married Nathaniel Hutchinson in Lynn, Essex, Province of Massachusetts Bay on 19 Nov 1770.

Research Notes

In 2018: Changed the 16 Nov marriage date that was listed in our family worksheets to 19 Nov solely to be aligned with the Lynn, Massachusetts vital records account that is linked below. Have good notes about marriage by Rev. Joseph Rody at the First Church, Saugas (now Lynn) but must yield to vital records account.

In 2018.- From reading “ The Family of Hurd in the Unites States” by Dona Hurd; I see that HURD, HORD, & HEARD are all variations used in this surname. This will settle concerns about both Hurd ( Find A Grave ) and Heard ( Vital Records ) being in conflict. There were no mention of any “Hutchinson” in the above on-line.pdf. That does not mean the wife and mother, Mary (Heard - Hurd), was not there, it just means the husband and father, Nathaniel was not mentioned.

In 2019 Have done more research and to date most significant information leads to Heard being her surname. Have had trouble nailing down surname between Heard and Heald as both names appear in several places.

Using only Vital Record found / Marriage in Lynn, Massachusetts decided to continue with last name Heard. In the Lynn Vital record mentioned it was noted Nathaniel's last name spelled 'Hutcherson' - considered a typo. Will continue to explore both of her family name spellings. Recently I noted that my 1st cousin used Hurd as her last name in GENI software but I found no supporting references. New entry for birth year based on Find A Grave narrative putting her at 64 years old at time of death,
