Note H33At the 1861 Census, apart from the transcription error of the family's surname to Ruttnup, (see notes for her husband Charles), she was also wrongly transcribed with the christian name Charlto when it was supposed to be the abbreviated form for Charlotte. I sent in transcription corrections to Ancestry.com for all of this family at 1861. At the 1881 Census, shortly after husband Charles died, the two children Charles and Clara are both still living in Poplar, but in Wade Street, between East India Dock Road and Poplar High Street. They are definely the right children as they are of the right age and Charles has taken on his father's profession of lighterman. However, the mother, that should be Charlotte, is given as Alice! It is assumed that this must be her middle name as, in other respects, she is the right age and is recorded as a widow, although her birth place is wrongly given as Poplar, like the children. Just in case Charles remarried in the 1870s, a check on this in Free BMD was carried out but proved negative. Neither is a death of a Charlotte Redknapp (or Redknap) recorded. Moreover, neither the mother or children have the prefix "step" in their given relationship.
