Biography

Luke was the son of Sarah Stent and Robert Heath. He was baptised on 12 December 1813 at Witley. ^[1]

He worked as an Agricultural Labourer for a Farmer, Mary Wood of Normandy, in the Parish of Ash.

Luke married on April 11 1842 at St James Church to Harriott/Harriet Robinson, daughter of Richard of Ash, Surrey. ^[2] At the time, Luke was employed as an Agricultural Labourer and Harriott, a Servant. Witnesses to their marriage were James and Mary Chitty.

They had 8 known children in their marriage, Robert 1843, Richard 1845, Caroline 1846, Harriet 1847, Rosetta 1850, Emma 1854, Alice 1853 and Kate 1860.

Son Richard emigrated to Vancouver and then made his way to Massachusetts where he married Mary Ann Miner in 1875.^[3] (Luke's sisters Caroline Noon and Emma Burnap were living in Massachusetts at the time) Richard was naturalised in 1893. ^[4] He was widowed and returned to England in the 1890's on the ship Catalonia.

Luke and Harriet settled to marriage in Elstead and lived for some time in the Village. By 1871 the family were living in Cottage Back Lane and next moved to Cedar Mount Street. Luke and Harriet likely lived at Cedar Mount Street until their deaths.

Luke was retired in his 70's and with no income possibly on Parish Relief.

Luke Heath died in 1893 aged 78, death registered at Hambledon in the July/September quarter. ^[5]

Harriet passed away in 1902 aged 83 at Hambledon.
