Wynne was born in spring 1883, the only child of Alfred Heath and Ellen Wynne.
Wynne's parents had 18 months prior immigrated from Staffordshire to the US, and began farming in Virginia. His father passed away when he was young. Wynne's mother married his great-uncle Alfred James Joule in 1888 at Washington, DC. This avuncular marriage was not lawful in that jurisdiction, and was therefore void. Regardless, Wynne grew up in the family home with his step-father/great-uncle.
The group moved to Victoria, BC, and five months after the union, added Wynne's half-sister Susan Ellen. Stepather Alfred had engaged in small-scale farming on Dallas Road.[1] Half-sister Agnes Elsie was born in early 1891.[2] The family moved to 25 Princess Street and Alfred joined Her Majesty's customs service in 1891.[3]
By 1893 the family moved to Toronto Street in James Bay,[4] and by 1895 they lived at 45 Montreal Street (later renumbered as 602 Montreal).[5] Half-brother John Trafford and half-sister Hilda Winnifred were born in this period. Final sibling Francis James was born in 1897, by which point the family lived at 175 Menzies (the west side corner at Dallas Road, later renumbered as 4 Menzies).[6][7] By 1903 they moved to 58 Dallas Road (later renumbered to 76 Dallas),[8] and by 1905 to 126 Belleville Street (later renumbered to 205 Belleville).[9]
By 1900 Wynne lived at Sandon, BC.[10] He was engaged in outdoor work, including surveying throughout BC. Driven by stepfather Alfred's promotion, Wynne's Victoria family moved to the remote outpost of Gateway, BC in mid-1907. One of Wynne's jobs took him with family friend Edward Mallandaine, Jr to survey CPR lands in the East Kootenays.[11] 1912 found Wynne working with the Forestry Department at Fort George.[12]
In autumn 1915 Wynne attested for the Canadian Expeditionary Force at Prince George, BC, listing his calling as Forest Ranger. He trained as an officer at Willows Camp at Oak Bay, near his childhood home of Victoria. As a Lieutenant, Wynne served in England, commanding the 50th Regiment Reinforcements, 16th Reserve Battalion starting mid-1917, where he took further officer training. He served in France, later with 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles.[13]
Just prior to leaving overseas, at age 34 in spring 1917, Wynne married 23-year-old Grace Monteith.[14] After the war, the couple briefly stayed in the BC Lower Mainland, and Victoria, and welcomed their first child, daughter Ellen Claire. Resuming his pre-war forest work, Wynne and family first went to Kamloops,[15] and by 1921 were based in Vanderhoof, BC. Son James Edward and daughter Isabelle were born there.[16]
The group of five relocated to Vancouver in spring 1932.[17] The family initially lived at 2954 West 38th Ave, and Wynne worked as a salesman.[18] Soon thereafter the family moved to Powell River, BC.[19] Daughter Claire married in 1942, and by the following year Wynne's household moved to North Vancouver, living at 3555 Lonsdale Ave.[20] 1944 saw them at 2526 West 6th Ave, Vancouver.[21] Wynne retired and 1946 saw his son's marriage, and his address become 2598 West 37th Ave.[22] Daughter Isabelle married in 1947.
Edwin Firmstone Wynne Heath passed away in autumn 1950.[23]
