Born on 2 January 1651/52, Gilbert Heathcote was the eldest son of Gilbert Heathcote of Chesterfield in Derbyshire and his wife, Ann Dickens.[1][2] He and his six surviving younger brothers all became successful international traders, having each received £500 from their father to set themselves up in business.[3]
Gilbert Heathcote aged 30 of St Dunstan in the East in the City of London married Hester, daughter and heiress of London merchant Christopher Rayner, by licence dated 30 May 1682.[2][4]Together they had 5 sons and 5 daughters.[2]
He purchased Forest House at Low Leyton, Essex, as his family home.[5]
He succeeded his father in 1690.[2] He was first returned to Parliament as member for London in 1701 and was knighted on 29 October 1702. He was Lord Mayor of London in 1710/11. Sir Gilbert was created Baronet Heathcote of London on 17 January 1732/33[2] and died on the 25th.[2]
