Ola was born 17 Jan 1901[2] at Blount County, Tennessee the son of Joseph and Ida (Anderson) Heaton. In 1906 his father Joseph was killed by a dynamite explosion on the railroad in Tennessee and Ola, in his own words, "was shipped like baggage to Liberal (Kansas) by railroad." His mother and siblings also came to Liberal, Kansas. Ola further wrote that "shining shoes, sweeping out pool halls, and picking up coal along the railroad track" helped to make a living.
Ola married Alberta ____________ after 1930 and made his living farming, ranching and working construction.[3][4] Alberta passed away in 1966. Ola passed away in 1994 at the age of 93 and is interred at the Liberal Cemetery.[5]
