Biography

Rebecca was born about 1760, estimated from the age at death. Her marriage licence shows 21, which would give a birth date 0f 1770, but it may simply have been "over 21".

She married Jonas Horsfall on 24 May 1791 at Haworth, Yorkshire. Marriage by licence, both of that parish, both signed, witnesses Robert Heaton junior and William Heaton (her brothers).^[1][2]

She died on 15 November 1798 and was buried at Haworth on 18 November 1798 "Rebecca wife of Jonas Horsfall, childbed, 39, Westcrofthead".^[3][4] The age at death is a year older than on her gravestone but the register commonly uses the form e.g. "in her 39th year" at this time.

Monumental inscription in Haworth churchyard: "Interred here the Remains of Rebecca Wife of Jonas Horsfall of West croft Head and Daughter of Robt Heaton late of Ponden who died Nov 15th One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Eight Aged 38 Years."
