Biography

Robert was a Friend (Quaker)
Robert Heaton II was a William Penn fleet passenger.

Robert was born in 1671. He is the son of Robert Heaton and Alice Rycroft. [1] His birth was recorded by the Settle Monthly Meeting[2] He arrived with his parents and siblings to Pennsylvania on board the William Penn Fleet ship "Lamb" in 1682.[3]

On 8 May 1700 Robert married Grace Pearson, Pearson-2932 the daughter of Thomas Pearson at the Middletown Monthly Meeting[4] The children of Robert Heaton and Grace were: [5]

  • Sarah b. 1701
  • Elizabeth b. 1705
  • Alice b. 1708

The birth of his daughter Grace was not recorded by the Middletown Meeting at the time it recorded the births of her sisters. The birth of 1703 was recorded by the Middletown MM when it recorded her death in a memorial.

Robert's wife Grace died in 1719 and on 3 Nov 1720 Robert married Susanna Carter Griffith-587 the marriage being recorded as orderly by the Middletown Monthly Meeting.[6] On Apr 1721 Robert was accused of having a child "with his then wife" 6 months after their marriage, the child being full term. Robert would admit no wrongdoing and was disowned by the Middletown MM.[7][8] No further records were found for Robert after this time.

Robert died in 1743, his will being proved 23 Jul 1743. His will named his wife Susannah, and children Sarah Walker, Grace Croasdale, Elizabeth Noble, Alice Plumly, Anna Heaton and Robert Heaton[9] Anna and Robert Heaton were likely the children born with his wife Susannah, and would have been born after 1743.

Robert Heaton and Grace Pearson were married "2,26,1700"[10]. Their marriage was authorized by the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting (Quakers).

Research Needed

The burial of Robert's wife Grace was recorded by the Middletown Monthly Meeting. [11] This record also gives burials of other people, namely, children of Robert Heaton-

  • Robert & Mary, son & daughter of Robert Heaton, were buried- 9th month 23rd 1719.
  • Thomas & Alice, son & daughter of Robert Heaton, were buried- 9th month 28th 1719.
  • Isaac, son of Robert Heaton, was buried 10th mo. 28th 1719.

Were these children of Robert Heaton and Grace Pearson? The record does not give the mother of the children. I have not at this time found a birth record for any of these children. All of these children died in November and December of 1719. Likely, a disease of some sort was prevalent at this time, to lose 5 children so close together. There were 2 Robert Heaton's during this timeframe, Robert Sr. and Jr. Robert Heaton Sr. and his wife Alice did not have children with these names, so it is probable that the children belonged to Robert Jr. and his wife was 39 at the time of her death, so she would have still been young enough to be bearing children. It is likely that they were fairly young at the time of death, all would have been born after 1708. The only issue I find is the death of Alice, daughter of Robert in 1719. Robert already had a daughter Alice who was born in 1708, married John Plumly, and is named in her father's will. Would he name 2 daughter's Alice? Is there another Robert Heaton? A birth record would help prove their parentage.

I think Robert Heaton II named two children Alice and two Robert; five children and his first wife Grace died in 1719, including the first Alice and the first Robert. After Robert II married Susannah Griffith Carter in 1720, he fathered three more children - Alice, Robert III and Anne. It was the birth of the second Alice only six months after his marriage with Susannah that resulted in Robert Heaton II being disowned by the Middleton MM. It was the second Alice Heaton who married John Plumly. The second Robert III who inherited Robert II land in Northampshire township of Bucks County, PA Colony.

Heaton-548 and Heaton-149 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate. Heaton-548 has additional children

Heaton-149 and Heaton-551 appear to represent the same person because: Date of birth should be 3 Aug 1671, his birth was recorded by the Settle Monthly Meeting in Yorkshire, England. He was not born in Pennsylvania. He arrived with his parents and siblings on the Lamb in 1682. Heaton-551 is sourced for birth, marriage and death. He was married twice- second marriage to Susannah in 1720, which needs more research and sources.

Heaton-551 and Heaton-149 are not ready to be merged because: Different birth dates and places. Need to resolve.

The dates for birth are different due to the differences in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. The birthdate of 3 Aug is correct as Quakers used the Julian calendar prior to 1752. I have placed more sources on Heaton-551 for birth and death. Heaton-149 is orphaned and I will adopt this and request the merge be completed.

Thank you.

Heaton-551 and Heaton-149 appear to represent the same person because: Fairly clear duplicates. Other pages indicate that he was born in Yorkshire and died in Bucks.
I also have Robert's wife listed as Grace Pearson. Also have Robert b 3 January 1671, d 7 March 1743, m 6 Aug 1700. Daughter Grace Heaton b 6 Aug 1703. Will further check sources.

I have Grace Pearson d 30 April 1719 so Susannah may well have been a second wife.
