I am confused as to what information will be left in the merge. Aime Herbert was born 11 jul 1811 (baptismal record) . Why would you use "apx 1812" from Census record? Is there a proposed copy of the merged record that I could view before I agree to merge?
Hi Linda, just saw your comment sorry. I just chose not to use the exact date of birth because I hadn't taken the time to add the baptism source to Hebert-6524. I guess I could have, but it is not necessary to make the two profiles identical before a merge, and it can sometimes make it more confusing to try to figure out if two profiles should be merged if one profile is changed to match all the info already found in the other profile.
Yes you can certainly review the proposed final profile information before completing the merge. If you scroll down to the "pending merges" at the bottom of this profile and click "Merge", it will take you to the merge table where you choose which data from each profile to keep for the final profile. There is also a section where you review the final combined biography text, which can be previewed. (See Help:Merging)
Even if you think you made a mistake during the merge process, the profile can be easily edited afterward. The data from the two profiles is not lost, it can still be found in the Changes log.
I see that the profile manager of Hebert-6524 has already approved the merge on his end, so whenever you're ready you can complete the merge.
Correct, 1830 was the estimated year of birth used in the profile for Hebert-6524 before sources were added. The correct 1811 birth date should be chosen during the merge process. I will update the birth year on Hebert-6524 now (estimated as 1812 based on the 1861 census) to avoid further confusion.
Thanks, Linda
