Biography

Marguerite Hébert was born before the census of 1703. She was the daughter of Michel Hebert and Elisabeth Pellerin.[1]

She married Jean Gautrot, son of the late Charles Gautrot and Françoise Rimbault 10 Oct 1725 at Saint Charles des Mines.[1][2]

Around 1750 she married Jacques Richard, son of Pierre Richard and Marguerite Landry, widower of Anne LeBlanc and Anne Granger.[1]

On 5 September 1755, Jacques was imprisoned along with hundreds of other Acadian men at the St. Charles des Mines church in Grand-Pré. On a list of prisoners, he was said to live in the village des Richard with 3 sons and 5 daughters (spouses were not included on the list), and owned 5 bullocks, 7 cows, 10 young cattle, 30 sheep, 10 hogs, and 2 horses. His property and livestock became forfeit to the crown, and his family was required to prepare for deportation within 30 days. [3] [4]

On 27 October 1755, Jacques and Marguerite were deported to Maryland. The following children were deported with them: Laurent Gautrot, Firmin Gautrot, Paul Richard, Marie-Rose Gautrot, Marguerite Gautrot, Marie-Blanche Gautrot, Anne Gautrot, Élisabeth Richard and Anne Richard. [4]

On 7 July 1763 she was listed in a census in Newton (Chestertown), Kent, Maryland, a widow.[5]

She died after July 1763.[5]
