Biography

Judithe Hebert was born about 1721. She was the daughter of René Hébert and Marie Boudrot. She was baptized the same day as she was born at Saint Charles des Mines, Grand-Pré, Acadia. Her godparents were Francois Leblanc and Marie Bourg.[1]

When she was 19, She married Fabien Dupuy, age 22, son of Jean Dupuy and Marguerite Richard 6 July 1739 at Saint Charles des Mines, Grand-Pré, Acadia. [2][3]

On 5 September 1755, Fabien was imprisoned along with hundreds of other Acadian men at the St. Charles des Mines church in Grand-Pré. On a list of prisoners, he was said to live in the village des Dupuis with 6 sons and 3 daughters (spouses were not included on the list), and owned 4 bullocks, 5 cows, 7 young cattle, 20 sheep, 10 hogs, and 1 horse. His property and livestock became forfeit to the crown, and his family was required to prepare for deportation within 30 days. [4][5]

In 1755 Fabien, Judith, and their 9 children were deported to Connecticut aboard the Dove. [5]

Fabien died between 1758 and 1763. Their youngest son was born in the New England colonies around 1758. In 1763, Judith appeared on a census in Connecticut with 7 children. [6] Judith and at least 6 of their children died at Le Mirebalais, Saint-Dominque (now Haiti). [5]

Judith was buried at Mirebalais on 18 November 1764. The date of death was not noted in the register. She was given the age of about 40 years. [7]

Under Bibliography, last paragraph, there is a typo. She was buried in 1764, not 1864.

Hi, Elizabeth. Thank you for noting that typo. In the future, please feel free to make such corrections yourself. The project manages profiles but we don't limit who can make edits except to PPP profiles. Best, Cindy
