Biography

Germain Hébert was born about 1693 in Grand-Pré, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, son of Michel Hebert and Isabelle Pellerin. [1][2]

Germain (26) married Marie Anne Caissie (20) (born in Beaubassin, Acadie; daughter of Jean (Cassie) Caissie and Anne Bourgeois) about 1720 in Acadie. [1]

Their children were:

  1. Marie Hébert
  2. Anne Hebert (~1723– )
  3. Marguerite Hebert (1725– )
  4. Jean Baptiste Hebert (1730– )
  5. Francoise Hebert (1734– )
  6. Marie Anastasie Hebert (1736– )
  7. Claire Hebert (1739– )
  8. Magdeleine Hebert (1743– )

On 5 September 1755, Germain was imprisoned along with hundreds of other Acadian men at the St. Charles des Mines church in Grand-Pré. On a list of prisoners, he was said to live in the village des Melanson (Grand-Pré) with 1 son and 3 daughters (spouses were not included on the list), and owned 2 bullocks, 3 cows, 6 young cattle, 6 sheep, 7 hogs, and 2 horses. His property and livestock became forfeit to the crown, and his family was required to prepare for deportation within 30 days. [3][4] His son Jean-Baptiste was also a prisoner in the Church.

On 27 October 1755, Germain and Anne, as well as their children Jean Baptiste, Françoise, Marie-Anastasie, Claire, Madeleine, and an unnamed son, were deported to Maryland. [4]

Germain died before the census taken on July 7, 1763 in the Province of Maryland. His wife was listed as a widow on that census, in Annapolis, with her children Madeleine and Jean-Baptiste. [5] [6]

Research Notes

He was listed as Michel (not Germain) on his daughter Francoise's baptism record.

Hebert-1944 and Hebert-60 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, birthyear one year apart. Same parents on 1944 are mentioned in 60. Same spouse mentioned in both profilels.
