Daniel David Heck was born ca. 1760 in Pennsylvania, perhaps Maxatawny Township, Berks County, the son of Daniel Heck. He married Elizabeth MacLain in Frederick, Maryland, in 1783. She died shortly after the birth of their son, born in 1783. He married 2) Susanna Zollman, daughter of Adam Zollman, in Frederick County, Maryland, ca. 1785. They had six children, 1786-ca. 1800. The family migrated to Rockbridge County, Virginia, ca. 1787. Susanna Heck died before 1811. He married 3) Susanna Guthries in 1823 in Rockbridge County, Virginia. They had five children, 1818-1833. He died in 1833 near the Natural Bridge in Virginia. Descendants lived in Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Tennessee, Illinois, Iowa, and elsewhere.

According to Daniel David's great-grandson, Arch Heck, in his Heck genealogy Volume 1, p. 80 "His cemetery, overgrown, lies near Blue Hollow or Blue Hole, south of the Natural Bridge, on west side of the stream."
