Garry A. Souders, age 60, of Chambersburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in his home, while surrounded by his family.
He had been courageously battling cancer for two years.
Born on November 9, 1950 in McConnellsburg, he was a son of the late Charles J. and Helen I. Strait Souders.
A 1968 graduate of Central Fulton High School, Garry was employed as the manager of National Vision in the Mechanicsburg Wal Mart store. Previously he was employed with Allegheny Optical in Chambersburg. He was a member of the Hume McNeil Byers AmVets Post 224 and a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 842. Garry enjoyed going camping with family and friends, riding roller coasters,and listening to bluegrass music.
He is survived by his wife of almost 22 years, Gloria Heck Souders, whom he married on August 30, 1989; two brothers, Ricky Souders of McConnellsburg and Roger (and wife, Nancy) Souders of St. Thomas;step-son, Jason (and wife, Melissa) Peters, and step-grandchildren, Justin and Morgan Peters, all of Chambersburg.
He is also survived by an aunt, uncle, and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry;
Services will be held at 1 PM on Friday, June 24, 2011 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. The family will welcome friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
