He had a wonderful sense of adventure and owned an open cockpit bi-plane before he owned his first car. He would barnstrom small towns to gather a crowd and take people for rides to earn money. He excelled at ice hockey and taught riflemanship at the University of Wyoming. He married Glenrose Hileman in 1933 and celebrated 62 years of marriage before she died in 1995. He served in the Air Corps in the South Pacific during WWII.
