Biography

Helen Heckel was born 27 Jan 1894 in Freedom, Outagamie, Wisconsin, to Joseph Heckel and Mary Randerson. Her given name at the time of Baptism is listed as Magdalen.^{[1][2][3][4][5]}

Before marriage, Helen taught elementary school in one room country schools in the county. She boarded with families near the school where she taught. At the end of the term, her father would collect her earnings.

She married William Patrick McCarthy in June 1920, at St Nicholas Church, Freedom, Wisconsin. Together she and William raised a large family of seven children on their family dairy farm in Center, Outagamie, Wisconsin.^[6][7] Later in life, Helen and William McCarthy moved to a home in Appleton, and their son Richard took over operation of the farm.

Helen Heckel McCarthy died 24 Jul 1966 in Appleton, Wisconsin. She is buried at St Edward Cemetery, Mackville, Outagamie, Wisconsin.^[8]
