Hazel Margaret Hectus was born on 3 November 1904 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. She was the eldest daughter of Emil Fredrick Hectus, who was born in Chicago to emigrants from Saxony, Prussia, and Margaret Mary Riley, who was born in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland. She had six brothers and seven sisters. Her family was Roman Catholic. [1]

Hazel first married Richard Emmett Blakely on 14 June 1924 in Lake County, Indiana. [2] They had one daughter, Virginia Margaret Blakely. [3] Hazel remarried to Carl Ebling Huntzinger on 6 June 1936 in Cook County, Illinois. [4] They had one son, Thomas E. Huntzinger. [5]

Hazel passed away on 21 April 1951 in Chicago, aged 46 years, and was interred at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Hillside, Cook, Illinois. [6]
