Biography

Gerald was born in 1880 at Cholsey, Berkshire. He is the second son and fourth child of Francis Hedges and Ellinor Reade ^[1] who married in July 1872. His birth was registered at Wallingford, Berkshire, in the first quarter of 1880.

By the 1881 census Gerald's parents already have six children. The family is found at Winterbrook, Cholsey, by Wallingford, Berkshire. Details listed - father Francis E Hedges (34, solicitor, born Wallingford), mother Ellinor E Hedges (30, born Benares, India), sister Constance Hedges (7, born Cholsey), brother Francis R Hedges (5, born Cholsey), sister Alice M Hedges (3, born Cholsey), Gerald B Hedges (1, born Cholsey) and twin sisters Violet Hedges and Ethel M Hedges (under 3 months, born Cholsey). There are also four resident servants - cook, housemaid and two nursemaids.

His father was a Solicitor.

Sadly Gerald died in 1889 at the age of 9. ^[2] His death was registered at Wallingford in the second quarter of 1889. It is likely that Gerald's actual place of death was Brightwell, Berkshire, just to the west of Wallingford. From the 1891 census it is apparent that his parents moved here in the early 1880's.
