John was born on 29 March 1764. He was the son of John Hedges and Ann Hedges nee Barnshaw. John was baptised at Highworth on 29 March 1764.
John married Hannah Brooks at Highworth on 3 May 1785.
John and Hannah had the following children:
Three children were born and baptised at St Michael & All Angels in Highworth between 1786 and 1793, but the other three were born in Abingdon, about 20 miles away and baptised in Abingdon Congregational Church. It is unclear why the family was in Abingdon, but they returned to Highworth before the 1801 census.
We know from the baptisms of Thomas and Naomi in 1793 that he was a grocer, although in 1786 he had been a labourer. The 1801 census, which readsJohn died at Highworth in 1833. He was buried at St Michael & All Angels, Highworth on 7 November 1833.
