1851 Census, Dauntsey: Ann Kane was resident at Dauntsey, Wiltshire, age 45, place of birth Purton, Wiltshire.[9]
1871 Census, Dauntsey: Ann (surname transcribed as Thane) was resident at Dauntsey, Wiltshire, age 64, place of birth Purton, Wiltshire. Also present was her husband Barnaby 'Thane'.[10]
While Ann (Hedges) Kane was born around 1806 at Purton, the list of children above gives no clue as to whether Ann (Hedges) Kane was the daughter of either Charles and Mary or the daughter of Robert and Joanna, or perhaps the daughter of neither.
Purton Family
1841 Census, Purton: Ann and George Besant and two children resident at Purton. Ann's age was rounded to 30.[23]
1851 Census, Purton: Ann Besant not present with the family of George Besant.[24]
1861 Census, Purton: Ann Bezant age 36, wife of George, was resident at Purton, place of birth Lyneham.[25]
1871 Census, Purton: Ann Beasant age 46, wife of George, was resident at Purton, place of birth Preston [i.e. the hamlet of Preston in the parish of Lyneham].[26]
Hence the Ann Hedges who married George Besant would appear to have been born around 1815 at Lyneham, Wiltshire, and was probably not one of the three Ann Hedges baptised at Purton. A Baptism for Ann Hedges around 1815 at Lyneham has not been identified.
