Biography

Peter Hein was born on May 8, 1881 to Jacob and Magdalene (Westveer) Hein in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, United States. They were said to have had 9 children, and Peter was the 5th oldest of their 6 known children: Jennie, Arnold, Petronella, Elizabeth, and Edward.

In 1900, Peter lived in Grand Rapids, Ward 5, Kent, Michigan, United States with his parents and brother, Edward. Peter worked as a hand carver. [1]

On 23 November 1904, Peter married Elizabeth Hughes at St. Alphonsus Church in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, United States. He was 23 and working as a carpenter. She was 20. [2]

A note on their wedding in the society pages read: "Hein-Hughes: A simple but pretty wedding was solemnized on Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Hoogerhyde of North Avenue, when Miss Lizzie Hughes was united in marriage to Mr. Peter Hein, the ceremony being performed by Father Broeffeil of St. Alphonsus' Catholic Church. The bride was attended by Miss Elsie Bullis and the groom by Mr. Edward Hein. The bride looked charming in a gown of light tan lansdown with lace trimmings and carried a large bouquet of white carnations. The bridesmaid wore a dainty gown of tan crepe de chine with white trimmings and carried pink carnations. After the ceremony, supper was served in the dining room, the table being artistically decorated with smilax and carnations. Music furnished entertainment for the evening. Many beautiful and useful gifts were received by the young couple. Mr. and Mrs. Hein will be at home after December 1 at 246 Cedar Street." [3]

In 1910, Peter and Elizabeth lived on Cedar Street in Grand Rapids, Ward 5, Kent, Michigan, United States with their daughter, Margarie. They owned a home with a mortgage, and Peter worked as a carpenter. [4]

In 1920, Peter and Elizabeth lived on College Avenue in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, United States with their daughter, Marjory. They owned their home. Peter worked as a carpenter. [5]

Peter resided at 1214 College NE on in February 1942.

During his lifetime, Peter worked as a maintenance person at the People's Bank Building. He also served as secretary of Camp 309 of the Modern Woodsmen.

Peter passed away on 10 November 1951. At the time of his death, he was living at 1254 College Ave. NE, in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, United States. The cause of death was carcinoma bladder with extension of carcinoma in sigmoid. Peter is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, United States. [6]
