In June of 1920, William Hein was scheduled to marry Ada Ruth Phillips in Michigan, United States, however, the record said the marriage license was returned unused. He reported being 22 and she reported being 18; though actually he was 24 and she was 14. William worked as a tool grinder. [12]
On 4 October 1920, William (using the name Arnold Hein) married Ada Ruth Phillips, daughter of Thomas Phillips and Sarah Ferguson, in Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States. He reported being 23 and she reported being 18; though actually he was 25 and she was 15. [13]
In May 1922, attempts were made by authorities in Grand Rapids to serve William papers related to alleged non-payment of alimony to his ex-wife, Marion, however the papers were returned since they were unable to locate him. [14]
In 1930, William and Ada were living in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States with their son, Richard W. They rented their home for $50/month, and William was working as a decorator. [15]
In 1935, William and Ada continued to live in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States. In 1940, they were living in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, United States. William worked as a painter and decorator for his own company. [16]
On 27 April 1942, William registered for the United States World War II Draft. He was living at 341 Burton St. SW in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, United States. He reported being self-employed. He was 5'11" and weighed 160 lbs. He had brown eyes, black hair, and a ruddy complexion. [17]
William passed away on 25 October 1978 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, United States. [18] He is buried at Rosedale Memorial Park in Tallmadge Township, Ottawa County, Michigan, United States. [19]
