Biography

In his lifetime, Kraft Heiner was known primarily as "Kraft Hüner" or "Craft Huner." His descendants quickly came to spell their last name as "Heiner," so this spelling perpetuates that practice as a convenient anachronism. His birth name almost certainly was Kraft Hüner. There are many independent sources for information on Kraft Heiner. I will be adding these in the near future. The variations in the spelling of his first and last name, are due mostly to the usual problems of illiteracy, and challenges of transliterating German pronunciation into usable American dialects.

In Germany, Kraft Hüner was a barber and a winemaker.
