Louisa was born in 1847 in Boston, Erie County, New York, the daughter of immigrants from Alsace, France Diebold Heinrich and Eva Heiser. Louisa would have grown up on the family farm in Boston, and in about 1866, she married Louis Walter, also an immigrant from Alsace. They had one child in New York, but by 1870 had moved to Goshen in Elkhart County, Indiana where her husband worked as a plasterer. They had two more children there. Her husband was trapping in the area with his brother Philip. By 1880, Louisa and the children had returned to her parents' residence in Boston. By 1892, Louisa and two of her children had moved into town in Hamburg where she worked as a tailor and later in a millinery store. The 1900 census found her elderly father staying with her in Hamburg before he died the following year. By 1905, Louisa was living with her daughter's family in Hamburg. Louisa died in Hamburg in 1909 at age 61 and is buried in Prospect Lawn Cemetery there.
