Walter was the only son of John Hele, of Gnaton and Lowseton, and his wife Elizabeth Pollexfen, daughter of Thomas Pollexfen, esq. of Kitley (Devon) and had nine daughters, and one son, Walter.[1]
He is noticed in Vivian's additions to the Visitations.[2] Walter was aged 19 on 7 May 1571 (Inquisition of his father); thus born 1552. He died 20 May 1609.[3] Buried at Newton Ferrers, Devon.
Family
He married Elizabeth Strode (Stroude), daughter of William Strode, esq. of Newnham Park (Devon). They had a number of children (order not specified in source):[4]
Judith Hele, married Gilbert Yarde, of Bradley. She had died before 1653.
Jane Hele; no marriage provided, she had died before 1653.
Susan Hele, baptised 18 June 1587 at Igborough. She married Thomas Isack, or Poulestow, near Exeter. She is named in the Will of her brother Sampson and living in 1653.
Isabell Hele, unmarried in 1620. She later married Sir John Davey. She is named in the Will of her brother Sampson and living in 1653.
Agnes Hele, unmarried in 1620. She is named in the Will of her brother Sampson and living in 1653, still unmarried.
Elizabeth Hele, unmarried in 1620. Died before 1653.
Frances Hele, married John Snellinge of Chaddlewood. Living, but a widow, in 1653.
Joane Hele, married Thomas Foynes, of Plymouth Maior. She had died before 1653.
Sampson Hele, of Gnaton, son and heir. Designed of Gnaton in 1620, of Halwell in 1653. Aged 24 years at death of his father (1609) thus born 1585. His Will dated 10 Oct 1653, proved 4 Dec 1655. He married Joan Glanville, daughter of John Glanville, Justice of Commissions who survived him. They had children.
