Peter was the son of Nicolaus Hellen and Anna Margaretha Kaut. Peter married 1.Anna Maria Weber on 8 January 1841 at St Kastor Catholic Church in Weiler, Dist. Mayen, Rhineland, Prussia (Germany). Peter and Anna emigrated from Prussia (Germany) and arrived at the Port of New York on 25 August 1856 aboard the ship "Alice Tainter'. Peter and Anna were among the early settlers in Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois. Anna died some time before 9 October 1859, when Peter married 2. Susanna Krebsbach, in Stacyville, Mitchell County, Iowa. After their marriage Peter and Susanna moved to Minnesota where in August of 1862, Peter was killed in an Indian uprising. Peter and Susanna had no children, Susanna never remarried.
