Biography

Henry Philip Hellinger was born on May 2, 1824 in Bavaria, Germany.

Henry immigrated to the U.S., arriving in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana in 1849. (Or, 1846?)

Henry married Eva Catherine Schmidt in 1849 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana.
Together, they had at least six children

Henry and Eva moved to St. Louis, Missouri about 1850, and within a few years they moved to Madison County, Illinois.

Henry was counted in the 1870 US Census as a landowner and farmer of Grant Fork, Madison County, Illinois. The household included Henry (40), Eva (35), Theresa (16), Henry (13), Charles (12), Andrew (10), John (7), and Christian (2). [1] (See Research Notes below for full details)

Henry appeared on the census in June 1900 in Pocahontas, Bond County, Illinois as Henry, b 5/1824, 76, b GER parents b GER, immigr 1846, day labor [2]

Henry died of lockjaw at the age of 84 on June 23, 1908 at his home in Pocahontas, Bond County, Illinois. [3]

He was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Pierron, Bond County, Illinois. (grave b lot 1-2 Blk 2 Sec 3 Row 2) [4] [5] [6] [7]

Henry Hellinger, born in Germany, was named as the father of John Hellinger on John's 1911 death certificate. [8]

The late Henry and Katherine Hellinger were mentioned as the parents of Theresa Meinkoth in several obituaries published in January 1933. [9] [10] [11]

May 13 2002: requested copy of death certificate from Bond Co, IL. Was informed no record found.

Obituary gives date of death as June 23; gravestone says June 22.
