Miles was a son of Miles Helmick and Elizabeth Vandevender. He married Mary Elizabeth Helmick, daughter of George and Sarah Helmick, on 25 June 1857 in Pendleton County, Virginia (now West Virginia)[1] He married Susanna Davis on 24 November 1872. [2]
Miles died of an abscess in Saint George District, Tucker County, West Virginia in 1887.[3] His grave marker incorrectly has the year of death as 1888.
