John Robert Helms was born 27 Oct 1801 in North Carolina. Son of John A. Helms 1780-1860 and Stephen "Peggy" Steffy 1772-1870 in Virginia

Married twice: Husband of Rachel (Barnes) Helms ^[1] & 2nd wife: Martha Young.

He died 8 Oct 1878 in the Cicero Township, Tipton, Indiana

Information found in the Replies section: John Robert Helms had 14 children. Left his wife and had four more by Martha (Young) Wilkerson, a widow in Northern Indiana. No divorce source has been found.

It is true John Robert Helms did leave his family and start another one in Tipton he had four other children. Rachel his wife went to Brown Co. Indiana to live with one of her children later (daughter Rebecca (Helms) Aynes).
