His family had moved to Pike County, Georgia after 1833. Henry Helmes married Mary Ann Aken on the 15th of September 1841 in Pike County, Georgia.[1]
It appears that Henry was perhaps one of the two males enumerated as age 15 to 20 in the household of Joel Helmes on the 1840 Census for Pike County, Georgia.[2]
The 1848 Pike County Tax Rolls charged:
Henry Helmes. - 1 poll 90 acres, lot 22, District 1
Mary Helmes - 1 poll, 100 acres, lot 22, District 1. [This Mary is the widow of Joel Helms.] [3]
On the 3rd of December 1849, Josiah Pyron and William Jackson were Security for Henry Helms' debt to J. B. Williamson for which lot of land No. 12, also 90 acres off of North part of No. 22, and also 25 acres off of the South Part No. 11 in the 1st district of formerly Monroe Now Pike were put up for security.[4]
The 1850 Census for Pike County, Georgia enumerated the household of "Henery Helmes], age 28 [born 1822], born in NC with:[5]
Mary A. Helmes, age 23, born in Ga
Elizabeth G. [J.] Helmes, age 7, corn in Ga
Sarah H. Helmes, age 6
William M. Helmes, age 5
Amanda M. Helmes, age 4
John J. Helmes, age 3
Mary S. Helmes, age 2
Joel T. Helmes, age 8 months
William M. Helmes, age 21 [1829], born in NC
According to the Confederate Soldier's service records, Henry Helms died of disease in
the G. H. No. 1 in Savannah Georgia on 7 Sept 1863.[6] His wife, MARY A. HELMS, was enumerated as head of household on the 1870 Cenus for Spalding County, Georgia.

This HENRY HELMS is somehow related to JOEL HELMES who was born in North Carolina, and died in Pike County, Georgia. One of JOEL's sons, WILLIAM MADISON, was in HENRY's household in 1850. JOEL migrated to Pike County after 1835 from North Carolina, but I have not been able to establish which HELMES/HELMS family he was connected to in North Carolina. HENRY was not listed as a son of JOEL's on a deed JOEL made leaving land and chattels to his children. JOEL did, however, have two males in the household age 15 to 20 on the 1840 Census.
There was a SARAH HELMS listed on the 1840 Census in Pike County as age 60 to 70 with 1 male 20 to 30, 1 female 15 to 20 in the household.
