Every profile for a person, place, or thing can have one primary photo.

The primary photo appears at the top of the profile and in certain other contexts such as family trees.

How do you replace the Primary Photo?

By default, the primary is the first photo that you upload. If you upload additional photos you can make any one of them the primary.

Click the "view/edit" link under the photo you want to set as the Primary. This will open up an edit page where you can change information related to that photo. Click the button in the lower-right column that says "Set as Primary." Then save your changes with the button at the bottom of the page.

How do you remove the Primary Photo?

You can remove your Primary Photo and have no primary at all, if you prefer.

Go to the page whose Primary Photo you want to remove. Click the "edit" tab near the top of the page. This will open up an edit page where you can change information related to that person. Check the box that says "remove as primary" in the lower-right column. Then save your changes with the button at the bottom of the page.

How do you remove the Primary Photo if you've already removed the image?

Adding/removing the Primary Photo is separate from adding/removing a person from a photo.

If you have already removed a person from a photo but it still appears as the thumbnail on their profile, you will need to add the person back, then remove the Primary Photo, then remove the person again.
